Six Pack Abs Development Myths

Six pack abs development isn't easy! You have seen the gizmo's and gadgets claiming to turn your stomach into sexy abs in no time. As I'm sure you know that isn't the way to develop the sexy six pack abs. I'm going to go over some myths about weight loss and some tips that will help get you on the right track of six pack abs development.

Myth 1: Don't Eat Carbohydrates

Atkins diet and South Beach (remember these?) made this common myth popular. You heard the claims, eat protein and avoid carbohydrates and lose weight! That didn't last long did it? Still though people have his perception that carbohydrates are evil and should be avoided like a plague. Carbohydrates are needed in any balanced diet, but don't overdo it. It is still important to eat carbohydrates, especially after a workout when your body needs to be recharged.

Myth 2: Bad Genetics - I'm destined for failure!

Wrong! This is the biggest myth out there. Just because your parents were fat doesn't mean that you too will be fat. Genetics does play a small role in the metabolic rate of someone, but thats the extent in regards to genetics. The most important factor in determining your success in any weight lose system is the amount of calories you intake daily. This combined with your physical activity in a single day determines how your body will react to those calories that have been consumed. Most of the time the people that claim bad genetics were taught poor nutrition and need to learn how to eat properly. That's the only real problem that 'genetics' play in someones life, so step up and learn how to eat properly.

Myth 3: Avoid Fat

Most people claim to avoid all fat, regardless of its type in a diet. I know what your thinking, eat fat?! Are you crazy? Hear me out for a second, the key to effective fat control is to cut down on the dangerous fats and increase the intake of good fat. Yes there is an actual difference between good and bad fat. Trans fat is BAD fat and should be avoided at all costs, this is the deadly killer of any diet. Good fats are polyunsaturated and Omega-3 which can be found in things like fish, olive oil, and avocados.

Myth 4: Skip Meals

This is a very big problem for people that want to lose weight. They assume that if you simply stop eating that they will obviously lose weight. Wrong, this is a very unhealthy solution to the problem. Don't be lazy, it comes down to the physical activity level. Regular meals are crucial to maintain a healthy metabolism. During these meals eat things that are beneficial to you and your health. Such as salads, fruits, vegetables and nuts! Things that are healthy and needed in a balanced die. Instead of that ice cream at Coldstone why not have a slice of Watermelon. If you just can't resist your sweet tooth check out things like Frozen yogurt as it is typically free of added sugar and fat!

Myth 5: Avoid White Foods

This is a very common myth, people associate white foods to unhealthy food. That actually isn't the case and there are many foods that are white in color and that provide a very healthy alternative. Here are some ideas: pears, nuts, avacado's, etc. It's all about the nutrition found in the foods, not the color that they are.

Myth 6: Grapefruit Solution

How this even got started I have no idea, but some people associate the grapefruit with the ability to lose weight. Some even go as far as saying that the grapefruit provides a miracle enzyme which is associated with losing weight. Sounds like another diet fad prophecy if you ask me! Don't fall for it either, there has been no proof regarding this so called claim and may just be a great marketing ploy. Grapefruits are rich in lycopene which is a great source of ingredients that can help provide nutrients and cancer preventive as well.

There are six simple solutions are common myths in the development of six packs and weight loss. Don't get conned into the marketing ploys by companies and organizations trying to promote their products and systems.

Some people have physical and demanding jobs of over 40 hours a week and feel exhausted when they finally make it home after the long day. Whatever the case may be you still have time to develop some six pack abs with the following suggestions.

First and foremost take a look at your diet. If you are one of the people I just described then I'm sure that your diet is lacking. A healthy diet will go a very long way, especially in regards to fat and fat loss. By switching to a lower calorie and fat diet your body will have no other option then to start burning the body reserves of stored body fat as an energy source. The stomach will be the first place that this occurs as most fat cells are stored in this area.

Here are some ideas on ways to burn calories and reduce calorie intake:

Park farther away from stores, work, etc. By parking further away you will burn more calories as a result of having to walk a farther distance. By doing this daily at all of your stops you will burn an additional 250 calories a day! You also will probably have less door dings too!

Ask for nonfat or lowfat milk in your coffee. Don't use whole milk and try to change to a nonfat or a lowfat alternative. This will help lower your fat intake throughout the day and will help to start lowering that fat around your stomach area.

Go for a run. Cardiovascular activity like this can help relieve stress, lower body fat and increase your metabolism by generating physical activity! I guarantee that if you go out for a run before work everyday or even after work you will feel 100% better, guaranteed.

TV break workout. This is one of my girlfriends favorite tricks, during a commercial break of one of her favorite reality television shows she likes to do a quick workout. This can consist of a couple sets of pushups, situps, or crunches. It's a great way to keep your body active and burn some calories during those boring commercial breaks.

It isn't tricky to develop little techniques throughout your normal day to day activities that will help your goal of obtaining sexy six pack abs. Just think about your daily activities and how you can change things for the better. Eliminate that late night snack, take a walk on the beach, go play frisbee or baseball, do something different to help benefit yourself and learn how to eliminate that body fat.

Six Pack Abs Workout

Regardless of who you are and what you do, everyone will hit a plateau in their six pack abs workout! Everything is going well, you have established some great results when all of the sudden you aren't gaining strength, you aren't losing fat, and you just don't think you are looking better. Why does this happen? Why do you hit a plateau and seem to get stuck in it?

It occurs because of lack of change, YES that is right! A lack of change in your workout plan is the direct cause of this plateau. You need to change up the way that you work out from time to time. Many people stick to the same regiment time after time again, same cardio, same weight training and so on and so forth.

I want to show you how to change up the normal and regular routines to gain the most from your workout and learn how to develop those six pack abs.

Most people are under the assumption that they should simply change the weight and amount of reps they do for a certain workout. That isn't the case, consider changing the workouts and adding some change into your routine, here is how.

Consider changing the order of your exercises, the exercise grouping (tri-sets, circuit training, super-setting, etc.), change the exercise type (multi-joint or single, free weight vs machine), the number of exercises per workout, the amount of resistance, stability workouts, the volume, the type of rest periods between sets. I could go on and on, but don't you see how many different variables there are to change?

A personal trainer or a specific e-book could help get you thousands of other ideas based upon who you are and what you want and are looking to accomplish. Here are some ideas to spice up your workouts and get out of the normal routine.

  • Try using heavier weight and complete 6 sets of 6 reps, with a 3 minute treadmill sprint in between each weight lifting set.

  • Try 10 sets of 3 with a middle to medium weight level, resting only 20 seconds between each set.

  • Try doing drop sets of all your exercises, this is where you drop the weight between each set and keep doing repetitions without any rest until you are completely fatigued.

  • Try completing five 30 minute workouts one week, followed by three 1 hour workouts the next week.

  • Try using a lighter weight than you are normally used to and do 1 set of 50 reps for each exercise.

This is only the basics of some of the ideas I present in my Abs Workout Homepage. Be sure to check it out!

Six Pack Abs Nutritional Guide

In order to successfully master those six pack abs it is necessary to understand that the meal after your workout is the most crucial one of your day. This is due to the fact that after a hard workout your body enters a catabolic state where the muscle glycogen is depleted and the increased cortisol levels are beginning to excessively break down muscle tissue. This catabolic state isn't beneficial and you want to return to a anabolic state as soon as possible. Thus you will need to consume a highly digestible post workout meal as soon as you can after training. Otherwise you are jeopardizing your six pack abs.

Again, it is important to choose a meal that will digest easily and that will replenish your muscles with the much needed glycogen. As well as providing amino acids which helps jump start muscular repair. The surge of carbohydrates and amino acids from the meals increases insulin in the pancreas, which in turn shuttles nutrients into the muscle cells.

Here are some fast facts regarding what is needed in your after workout meal.

  1. 120 lb Female should have a 300-calorie meal

  2. 200 lb Male should have a 500 calorie meal

  3. Post workout meal should contain 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein

Keep in mind though that those ratios and facts are only for your after workout meal. Your general meals should have sources of healthy fats, while the after workout meals should be very low in fat. Fat slows down the absorption of the meal which is exactly opposite of what you want to do.

NOTE: You do not need any fancy supplements or formula's for your after workout meal. It is best have products that are closest to natural state. You don't NEED them regardless of how they market! You will get a higher nutrient density by focusing on natural ingredients rather then the the sugars and maltodextrin found in the after workout supplement shakes. Keep this info in mind, it is crucial for obtaining six pack abs.

Here are a few ideas for some great post workout meals:

  • Chocolate Banana:
  • Blend together 1 cup water, ½ cup skim milk, 1 ½ frozen bananas, 2 tsp organic maple syrup, and 30 grams of chocolate whey protein powder - 38 G protein, 72 g carb, 0.5 g fat, 440 calories

  • Pineapple Vanilla
  • Blend 1 cup water, ½ cup vanilla yogurt, 1 cup frozen pinapples, 2 tsp of honey, and 30 grams vanilla whey protein powder- 35 g Protein, 71 g carb, 0.5 g fat, 425 calories

When looking to lose body fat and getting six pack abs, keep in mind that post-workout meals should have the opposite characteristics of all your other meals. Meals after workouts need to be high glycemic index carbs and quickly absorbing proteins, while general meals should have a low glycemic index, and slowly digestible carbs so that it is released over a long period of time rather than instantly into your body.
